Pattaya police engaged with traditional and app-based motorbike taxi drivers over the weekend to address road safety concerns. The meeting, held at the Baron Beach Hotel, was led by Police Colonel Patikorn Sornchai, Deputy Police Commander of Chon Buri Province, as part of the Royal Thai Police (RTP) Road Safety Improvement Project.

The initiative’s primary goal was to instil better traffic discipline among motorbike taxi drivers, known locally as Win, and app-based drivers operating in Pattaya. The morning sessions provided drivers with accident statistics and traffic law enforcement guidelines, aiming to enhance their awareness and compliance with road safety regulations.

Pol. Col. Patikorn explained the project’s broader scope, highlighting its implementation in five locations: Thung Maha Mek Police Station in Bangkok, Chokchai Police Station in Bangkok, Pattaya Police Station in Chon Buri, Pluak Daeng Police Station in Rayong, and Pak Kret Police Station in Nonthaburi.

The afternoon session focused on fostering positive relationships between traditional and app-based drivers. Group discussions were held to promote mutual understanding and cooperation, aiming to prevent conflicts over customers. Pol. Col. Patikorn emphasized that building a harmonious relationship between the two groups is crucial for improving overall public safety and service quality.

“We want to ensure that all drivers are aware of the rules and respectful towards each other and their customers.”

This collaborative approach, combining education and dialogue, is seen as a key strategy in reducing road accidents and enhancing the safety of both drivers and passengers. The project underscores the RTP’s commitment to creating safer roads through comprehensive and inclusive initiatives, reported Pattaya News.
