A single lightning strike ignited a fire that destroyed a house rented by a couple, causing over 700,000 baht in damages. The couple, both motorcycle enthusiasts, narrowly escaped the incident as they were out buying dinner.

Rescue worker Sunan Chumchua from the Kusonsathan Trang Foundation inspected the damage at house number 33/5, Moo 2, Khlong Khlo Subdistrict, Mueang District, Trang Province. The house, rented by Supoj Napsang and Nisakorn Klabsriaon, was struck by lightning around 5pm yesterday, resulting in a devastating fire.

The lightning strike hit the centre of the house, causing extensive damage and igniting a fire that consumed everything inside. The initial response from the SR Gallery motorcycle club saw members transferring funds to assist the couple in the immediate aftermath of the disaster.

Supoj recounted the events of the day, explaining that he had left the rented house around 4.45pm to buy dinner at a nearby market. During his time at the market, he heard continuous thunder. About 30 minutes later, his partner called him urgently, informing him that their house was on fire due to a lightning strike.

Upon rushing back home, Supoj found firefighters already battling the blaze. He speculated that the lightning strike might have hit an electrical outlet inside the house, sparking a fire that quickly spread to clothing and other items, becoming a catalyst for the larger fire.

Supoj detailed the extent of their losses, which included a big bike motorcycle, a freezer, clothing, a television, a refrigerator, fans, and all other electrical appliances. The total estimated damage is roughly 700,000 baht. He noted that had they been at home during the incident, their safety might have been at risk.

Supoj mentioned that friends from the SR Gallery motorcycle club across various provinces had pooled funds to help them purchase essential items. Additionally, the Khlong Khlo Subdistrict Municipality provided survival kits and initiated relief efforts.

Currently, Supoj and his partner have moved in with his mother. All of their business equipment was destroyed in the fire, necessitating new purchases for their livelihood. Supoj expressed gratitude for any assistance offered but also accepted the situation if no further help was forthcoming.

The SR Gallery team is organising a concert on June 15 to raise additional funds. Supoj mentioned that they are truly grateful for the support.

The concert aims to gather more financial aid for the couple, who are striving to rebuild their lives after the devastating fire. The community’s response has been a testament to their solidarity and willingness to support those in need during such challenging times, reported Khaosod.
