A fishing umbrella boat capsized near Laem Chabang Port in Chon Buri Province, Thailand, yesterday, leaving one crew member missing. The incident occurred around 1.2 nautical miles from the mouth of the Banglamung Canal. The vessel, carrying two people, encountered trouble due to a leak and was overturned by strong waves.
Onboard were 23 year old Chiang from Cambodia, and the boat’s owner, 50 year old Wichai Malison. Chiang managed to swim back to shore by clinging to a fuel tank. However, Wichai, who was last seen holding onto a plank, disappeared in the turbulent waters.
Rescue workers have been tirelessly searching for Wichai but have yet to locate him. The search team is patrolling the coast and the vicinity of the shipwreck, hoping to find any signs of the missing boat owner. Authorities have not provided new updates, and the fate of Wichai remains uncertain.
Chiang managed to swim back to shore by holding onto a fuel tank, but the boat owner disappeared after having previously been seen hanging onto a plank, reported the Pattaya News.
The search team continues to patrol the coast and the area near the shipwreck, but his fate remains unknown.
In related news, a tragic incident unfolded on May 4 at 4.30pm when a longtail tourist boat capsized near the Pak Meng Bridge in the Trang Sea, leaving 14 individuals adrift, including a 68 year old woman who sadly drowned. The accident took place approximately 2 kilometres from the pier at Pom Jatukham area, Mai Fat Subdistrict, Sikao District, Trang Province.
The boat, carrying 11 Thai tourists consisting of seven adults and four children, along with the boatman, a tour guide, and an additional crew member, encountered trouble as it was returning from a sea excursion. All passengers were wearing life jackets when the incident occurred, and they were eventually assisted by a passing speedboat before being brought ashore.
