A collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle in Chanthaburi Province resulted in a tragic death last night, where the motorcycle driver, going against traffic, was hit head-on. The incident occurred at the old checkpoint intersection on Thetsaban Road in Khlung District.
Police from Khlung Police Station and rescue volunteers arrived at the scene to find a severely damaged Honda motorcycle, with debris scattered across the road and the motorcycle’s rider, 48 year old Pongsarit was found deceased at the scene.
The body of Pongsarit was discovered in a gruesome state. His head was partially severed and certain body parts were dispersed throughout the area.
The other vehicle involved was a bronze Toyota pickup truck equipped with a steel cage, used for transporting baskets of fruit.
The pickup truck had veered off the road and was found with its right headlight and windshield shattered. The driver, who remains unnamed, stood by the scene, waiting to provide his account of the tragic incident to the police.
According to the driver, he was travelling from Trat Province towards Chanthaburi when the motorcycle suddenly appeared, driving against the traffic flow. Despite his attempt to swerve away, he could not avoid the collision, leading to the tragic accident.
The immediate cause of the accident is still under investigation. The investigating officer, Police Lieutenant Colonel Khomkrit Somchit, documented the scene and interviewed witnesses and the driver of the pickup truck has been taken in for further questioning to determine the precise cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, rescue workers from the Khunlung Foundation transported Pongsarit’s body to Khlung Hospital for a detailed examination before returning it to his family for religious rites, reported Khaosod.
In related news, a tragic crash occurred at 8.40am, May 27, on the inbound Pattaya side of Highway 7, near Bang Lamung, Chon Buri, when an 18-wheeler truck driver fell asleep at the wheel. The devastating accident led to the loss of two women’s lives and left five others injured, while also causing extensive property damage.
