Cyber police in Hua Hin arrested a woman at an apartment today for allegedly organising fake weddings. Wanted on three different arrest warrants for her fraudulent activities, and her scams caused damages of over 150,000 baht in total.

Authorities led by The Commander of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, Vorawat Watnakornbancha ordered the Chief of the Cyber Crime Investigation Division 1 Chatchapandhakan Klaiklueng, and Supharat Choti Chamng, the Superintendent of the Cyber Crime Investigation Division 3, to arrest the wanted 37 year old Wimonrat.

The arrest took place in front of an apartment in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. Wimonrat was wanted under three arrest warrants issued by different courts: Samut Prakan Provincial Court, Chon Buri District Court, and Thon Buri Criminal Court.

All of her arrest warrants were issued from February to June, last year.

The arrest came after numerous victims reported that they had been scammed by Wimonrat, who posed online as a wedding organiser.

The victims had paid deposits to her to make arrangements for their dream wedding but their dreams were shattered after discovering that the money was not used to book any venues or to plan their wedding.

When the victims demanded their deposits back, they found themselves unable to contact Wimonrat. The losses among the victims amounted to 165,400 baht.

Police investigations revealed that Wimonrat was residing in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. Officers tracked her down and made the arrest.

The initial charges brought against Wimonrat include defrauding the public and fraudulently inputting or altering computer data in ways that could harm the public.

She is now in police custody and will be handed over to investigators at Phra Samut Chedi Police Station for further legal proceedings, reported Khaosod.

In related news, Thirty Thai victims filed a lawsuit against a designer brand product vendor for operating an investment scam that caused 41 million baht in damages.
